Clothing

Bathing Suits

If you plan on spending a lot of time in the water during your trip, I recommend packing multiple swimsuits. Staying for a week? Pack about 5 suits. Unless you are able to wash/dry each day, you probably won’t want to wear the same suit twice. Check out all of my Summer 2022 Amazon swimsuit picks on the blog here.

Coverups

Most resorts in Mexico will have many outdoor sitting areas, restaurants/bars, and bathrooms accessible around the pool, so it is nice to have some coverups to go with your swimsuits to be comfortable and covered as you are walking around. Here are three cute styles from Amazon:

Jeans

You will definitely want to pack some jeans! Shorts for during the day and some long jeans for night (depending on the weather). These are the styles I have found on Amazon recently and have been loving!

Joggers/Leggings

A comfortable outfit for travel days is a must, or you might want to have some athletic clothes on hand if you feel up for a workout on your trip. We all know that Amazon has some amazing dupes for high-quality brand leggings and joggers. Here are my three favorite dupes that I am constantly recommending.

Dress or Skirt

If you are planning any nights out or nice dinners on your trip, make sure to pack a cute dress or skirt! The weather in Mexico is pretty warm most of the year, so a dress is also a great option to stay cool and comfortable. Here are a few summer dress/skirt ideas.

Tops

Pack some versatile tops that you can easily mix and match with your jeans and skirts to make multiple outfits. I like to go with neutrals to keep things simple – a good bodysuit, t-shirt, and tank top is all you will need! Bonus points if any of those tops can double as sleepwear or a workout top. As a chronic over-packer, I am always looking for ways to get more use out of fewer items. These are the staple tops I’ve found on Amazon lately.

Pajamas & Underwear

This one might be obvious but had to include in the list! I like to pack a cute pajama set when traveling, and some comfortable underwear. Keep in mind the types of tops/dresses you are packing and make sure to grab the correct bra! I also recommend these pasties if you prefer not to wear a bra with a bodysuit or dress. Don’t forget some socks too!

Travel

If you are traveling by air, you will want to be prepared to stay clean and safe. Hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes are a must. And even though airlines are not currently requiring masks, you will still want to bring some as certain places in Mexico will require them.

For air travel you will also be required to have a passport going to and from Mexico, and a passport holder is great to have on hand to keep your documents safe and secure!

If you will be driving through the border, you typically will only need to show your passport on the way back into the US. Make sure to pack all of your road trip essentials – headphones, portable charger, and a good book!

I also recommend bringing a good insulated water bottle like a Hydroflask or this similar dupe. You will have to avoid drinking any water from the tap in Mexico, so you can bring your own ice/water if you are driving or purchase bottled water for the trip. The restaurants will provide bottled water as well, so it is nice to be able to fill up your insulated water bottle and keep some cold water on hand that is safe to drink. It is also helpful to have some of these water purifying packets on hand if you are unable to get bottled or purified water in certain places.

Toiletries

You will be getting a lot of sun on this trip, so you will need to be prepared to protect your skin! I recommend bringing plenty of water resistant spray sunscreen SPF 30 or higher, some sunscreen lip balm, and some lotion with aloe and coconut oil for after those long days in the sun.

Of course you will want to pack the basics as well (Check out our post for travel sizes products):

  • Face Moisturizer (with sunscreen)
  • Dry Shampoo
  • Hair products & tools
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Body Wash
  • Razor
  • Deodorant
  • Skincare (travel kit)
  • Makeup

And lastly, some bathroom essentials. Between the exotic seafood, spicy flavors, and water concerns, you will want to be prepared for any digestive issues. Some flushable wipes and bathroom spray are a must, and some anti-diarrheal meds are good to have just in case. If you struggle with motion sickness and plan on being out on the water during your trip, some anti-nausea meds or sea-bands are also great to have.

Accessories

Hats

A good sunhat will be your best accessory in Mexico. A straw hat for lounging on the beach or walking around, and a baseball cap for any active adventures. I like to buy affordable hats for traveling just in case they get lost, stolen, or damaged on the trip. Here are some good options on Amazon.

Shoes

Comfortable waterproof sandals will be your best option for footwear for most of this trip. If you plan on doing any water activities, you will want a good pair of water sandals too (function over fashion here). You might want to pack one pair of heals or nicer shoes for a dinner or night out as well. Check out our full roundup of the best summer sandals on Amazon for some great options in various styles. And lastly some comfortable walking shoes for travel or any day trip adventures!

Sunglasses

My favorite accessory! Bring a pair (or two) for all those sunny days, and here are a few affordable options. Again, I like to leave my nicer pairs at home so I don’t have to worry about them getting lost or damaged.

Jewelry

Along with sunglasses, I also like to pack affordable jewelry when I travel. Skip the worry of your nice jewelry pieces getting lost or stolen and get some good quality dupes! Here are some items from my favorite Amazon jewelry shop – can’t beat the prices and the items hold up really well even in the water!

Bags

A good bag will be very helpful on this trip. For safety reasons you will want to keep your belongings close and secure, so I highly recommend a fanny pack or cross body bag for travel and walking around. Next you will want a sand-friendly bag for the beach, and I’ve linked the best rated beach bag on Amazon below! If you plan on doing on any boat outings or spending a lot of time around the water, a waterproof bag for your phone or a full waterproof bag will be very helpful.

Beach Gear

If you are driving into Mexico or have the ability to pack some beach gear, you will only need a few key items – chairs, umbrella, and beach towels/blankets. Some beachside resorts will provide towels or have chairs and umbrellas available to use, but a good sand-proof blanket is also really nice to keep your area clean.
